This isn't really surprising though as the pressures of modern life can certainly be taxing -- surviving in the technology age' is tough. Life isn't as simple as it once was, and there are now so many things to manage and maintain; finances, debt, health, education, children, our homes. etc. - the list is endless. Stress and anxiety are normal, to some extent, but what does one do when these develop into something a little more serious and are no longer manageable? --We turn to medicine.
Thankfully, along with all the pressures and complications, we now also have options - this wasn't always the case. Depending on what you're suffering from, or what disorder you may have developed, there are good medicinal treatments available to make your life and symptoms manageable again; Xanax and Zoloft being two worthwhile and reputable alternatives. Xanax, also known as Alprazolam, is a sedative that works well short-term, and is often prescribed by general practitioners to effectively treat panic and anxiety disorders, especially anxiety associated with depression. It belongs to a group of drugs that work on the central nervous system, called benzodiazepines' and is taken mostly taken orally.
Though unlikely, as with any other medication, you could experience side-effects. More serious side-effects include: seizures, breathlessness, yellow skin or eyes, garbled speech, dizziness/lack of coordination and severe allergic reactions. If you experience any of these, seek medical help promptly. The dosage will depend on the condition being treated and one's reaction to it. This drug is highly addictive.
Zoloft, sometimes called Sertraline, is a long-term anti-depressant and belongs to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors' category of drugs. It is effective in the treatment of anxiety but is more commonly used to treat OCD, post-traumatic stress, chronic depression and/or mood disorders. The drug is taken orally and works by keeping serotonin levels in the brain stable. People with suicidal thoughts are often prescribed this drug.
Side-effects of the drug include: difficulty sleeping, dizziness, excess sweating, nausea, upset stomach and loss of appetite. If you pass bloody or black stools, or throw up what looks like coffee granules, seek help urgently; it could be very serious. Serotonin Syndrome' is extremely rare but also a serious condition associated with the use of this drug. Zoloft must be used daily to be effective.
Well, they're two different drugs really, they just have similar effects. As mentioned, xanax is a short-term sedative-type drug, whereas Zoloft is a long-term anti-depressant. When it comes to treating anxiety, both can be used and work well but Xanax is a quick fix' offering fast relief and tends to be more effective for severe anxiety and panic attacks. One should be careful with xanax though as it is very addictive and can actually worsen anxiety when taken over an extended period. Always consult your doctor and follow his/her directions before you start or stop taking these drugs.
